Every 8th March, we commemorate International Women’s Day. The annual day of recognition draws attention to the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. This year, I wanted to be part of the narrative to celebrate women. Hence, I decided to do something special – a feature of everyday women who are equal parts inspiring and strong.
I wanted to find out more about the IUIGA team when I first came across a video of Co-founder Jaslyn Chan sharing about her entrepreneurial journey. In a world where men dominate business, Jaslyn is fighting the glass ceiling, like many generations of women before her.
I approached IUIGA and was invited to do a one week stint to get to know Jaslyn and the team. 10 out of the team of 15 are inspiring modern day women who strive to put IUIGA’s name beside the big boys of home and lifestyle companies.
Here are some of the insights that I have gathered from my interactions with the women behind IUIGA:
1.The way you dress does not define you
IUIGA’s dress code is short and simple: Comfort is key. On some days, the IUIGA team struts into the office in dress and heels. On other days, they stride in with sweatpants and a cozy T Shirt. Jaslyn believes in allowing employees to express their personality through their outfits, cultivating self confidence.
2. Women can, and should help each other
Many perceive working women to be catty and competitive. Contrary to that assumption, the women at IUIGA do not aim to undercut each other at work. The team shares about how everyone supports each other when the going gets tough. For instance, when manpower is short at an event, the team from different departments will voluntarily help out.

3. There is no one definition of a woman
The team also challenges gender stereotypes about being a women. I watched in awe as one member of the team singlehandedly lifted a water dispenser that contained 5 gallons of water, which roughly translates to a weight of 18kg. The women behind IUIGA also take on the tasks of fixing the computers and printers in the office. In a world where women are pressured to be feminine and docile, the women of IUIGA alter the social construct of what it is to be a woman.

4. Finally, it is important to empower each other
The team believes in uplifting and empowering women to be the best versions of themselves. For instance, the company willingly sponsors employees to go on external personal development courses to further their job-related skills. Besides that, IUIGA also firmly supports the personal interests of their employees. Grace, the company’s digital marketing executive, enjoys coding and does it in her leisure time. She spoke of her interest, and Jaslyn immediately made the necessary arrangements for Grace to attend coding classes!
#CelebrateYou
However, IUIGA wants to extend their beliefs of female empowerment beyond its office – the brand aims to empower women across the nation. This International Women’s Day, IUIGA commits to a week long campaign to celebrate women. Jaslyn went around the office and got the team to share a beauty essential that uplifts their mood, and makes them feel beautiful. With that, Jaslyn compiled the crowd favourites into a beauty box.
I am excited to share about IUIGA’s #CelebrateYou Beauty Box. Each box contains 5 different value for money items, all meant to help you pamper yourself, and empower you to own your beauty.
The #CelebrateYou Beauty Box, curated by real women, for real women includes:
Jaslyn’s favorite, and IUIGA’s bestselling Sonic Silicone Facial Cleansing Device. Jaslyn loves how the device cleanses and illuminates her face, allowing her to feel confident in her bare skin.
Clarissa’s pick, the Softspun Microfiber Magic Hair Drying Towel. The towel naturally dries her hair under 10 minutes without friction, and without over heating from a hairdryer.
Su Xian loves IUIGA’s Vanity Organiser Insert. It is perfect for storing her endless number of accessories and cosmetics to keep her vanity area minimalistic and free of clutter.
Jessie often uses the Round and Ribbed Tips Cotton Buds to clean up her make up mistakes. These organic cotton buds are sourced directly from manufacturers that work with Pigeon, a brand popular with mummies. Hence, the ultra soft paper tip ensures safety for use on babies too!
Grace chose the 100% Cotton Soft 5-Ply Cotton Pads. 5 ply is the new metric for cotton pads! 5 ply cotton pads offer an extremely gentle way to apply liquid skincare products. With quality as good as the highly coveted Shisheido Cotton Pads, the retail price of $5.20 is extremely value for money.
