It appears that Korean beauty trends are set to stay. Back in 2018, Korean beauty took the world by storm with no signs of it stopping. Out of all the beauty trends that emerged from this K-beauty wave, the most popular k-beauty look that has emerged is the whole Korean ‘glass skin’ look. Glass skin as the name suggests is defined as visually poreless and glowing skin accompanied by a balanced skin texture and tone.
Why is this look so popular? Well for one it makes you look younger, as ‘glass skin’ is clear, supple smooth and without wrinkles. When your skin is like this you will look you’re glowing, giving you a more clean, lively and professional look. Here is a step by step skin care guide on how you can achieve this ‘glass skin’ look!
Step 1: Double Cleansing Your Skin

To get the ‘glass skin’ look and better skin, implement the double cleanse. This term refers to the process where you first wash your face with an oil-based cleanser before proceeding to wash your face again with a more traditional cleanser. Beauty blogger and founder of online K-beauty shop Soko Glam Charlotte Cho swears by this technique as she found that it was a great way to clean your skin thoroughly without affecting its balance.Contrary to popular belief, oil cleansers will not make your face overly oily. Cho added that oil cleansers are actually the most thorough way you can remove the impurities from your skin. For even cleaner skin, a hack that many of my female friends found effective was to use a facial brush like the Eva Mini Facial Cleansing Device. The Eva Mini has many fine bristles do not irritate your skin but deeply cleanse your pores by reaching in. These bristles reach areas that our bare hands can’t. Use the Eva Mini alongside the oil cleanser and the more traditional cleanser to get the most out of this technique!
Step 2: Apply Facial Essence to Your Skincare Routine

After washing your face, add this step to get the hydration needed for visually poreless and glowing skin. For those unfamiliar, facial essences are light, moisturizing liquids that are meant to be used on your skin after you clean it. You skin behaves very much like a sponge. A sponge that was cleaned and dried will not absorb moisture as well as a sponge that is damp. Essentially using an essence is adding a ‘damp’ hydrating layer to your skin, allowing it to fully absorb all the expensive moisturizers, fancy creams, and serum.
Protip: Keep one with you at all time as a quick fix for your dull looking skin.
Step 3: Apply Hydrating Moisturisers With a Dewy Finish

After you’re done with applying the facial essence, slap on a hydrating moisturizer with a dewy finish to perfect that K-beauty ‘glass skin’ glow. Moisturizers like the Green tea balancing lotion EX 160ml are specially formulated to plump and soften your skin to achieve the ‘glass skin’ look and keep your skin exceptionally hydrated without feeling too heavy.
Step 4: Drink Up!

In order to achieve this glowing ‘glass skin’ look, you’ll need to drink more water every day. A study from the Internation Journal of Cosmetic Science in 2007, found that:
“drinking more than 2 liters of water per day can have a significant impact on skin physiology.”
Participants were separated into two groups. One group consisted of people who did not drink water regularly while the other group consisted of people who drank water regularly. They were then made to drink 2,25 liters of water every day for a month. The group that did not drink water regularly reported smoother, dewier and softer skin after 1 month, highlighting the need for hydration to preserve our skin’s health. When you are dehydrated, your body will take water from other areas like your skin (epidermis) to carry out more important functions. To achieve this look, you will need to drink at least 2 liters of water a day for hydrated skin. Not to mention that you’ll need water to stay alive and healthy!
Step 6: Apply Hydrating Sheet Masks Once a Week

Once a week, pamper yourself with a hydrating sheet mask for glowing skin with an even skin tone and texture. Be sure to look out for sheet masks that contain ingredients like:
- Macadamia oil
- Rice bran oil
- Hyaluronic acid
- Saqulne
- Ceramides
The ingredients will help keep your skin intensely hydrated, smooth and supple!
Step 7: Exfoliate Twice a Week

The final step you’ll need to take for supple ‘glass skin’ is to grab something like the Refresh Konjac Sponge to exfoliate your skin. Exfoliating is important to attaining ‘glass skin’ as it scrubs away all the dead, dull-looking skin cells from the top of your skin. This sponge is an all natural solution to exfoliation that comes straight from the root of the konjac plant. When in contact with water, the usually hard sponge will become soft enough for gentle exfoliation of the skin. The root of the konjac plant gives it a smooth texture which is gentle to those with sensitive skin. Here’s how to use it to Refresh Konjac Sponge to exfoliate your skin.
- Soak the Refresh Konjac Sponge for 10 minutes in warm water before the first use
- Softly squeeze out the extra water from the sponge by putting it in between your palms
- Add a dab of cleanser of your choice onto the sponge
- Scrub your face with the sponge with small circular motions working your way up the face.
We would recommend that you do not exfoliate more than three times a week. Over exfoliation of the skin can lead to minuscule cracks in the skin barrier that will dry and inflame your skin.
Follow this routine religiously and you’ll be having glowing, supple, slightly translucent and youthful looking glass-skin in no time!
